Find your own will and the will of your team
I can't find my will - where did I put it?:
The headline puts the matter a bit on the edge. The will is not a gland or a special center in the brain. But the will is good to get in touch with if one day you sense that it is a bit difficult to get started with anything.
There are people who, without warning, start playing the piano. They find a teacher. They practice. And then all of a sudden they play for us all. There are people who start to learn a new language, to ride a mountain bike, to collect ...
I myself have been practicing to become a better badminton player. There are many things to practice. To pose correctly. To move systematically. Practicing the basics. Being able to vary. To be able to mask. To hit hard. To strike softly. To endure to win. To bear to lose. It's a long catalog. One stroke I have worked on refining is the serve. A good start is crucial to whether the ball gets into play at all. That's why I've been practicing the serve and it works really well for me. One day I found a professional badminton player who agreed to help me improve my serve. He cost both time and money. But it was fun and effective. And my serve was renewed and surprising for the opponent.
Here are the secrets so that you alone or you and your team can find your will.
Select an activity
The activity you choose must be yours and yours only. The activity can be short-lived - from 3 seconds to 60 seconds. So a small, seemingly insignificant action.
Pick a time of day and do the activity every single day at exactly the same time.
When you have performed your activity with this regularity you slowly begin to feel where your will is 'located'.
- You get in touch with your will.
- You massage your will.
- You train your will.
- Your will becomes resilient.
- Your will is exercised.
- Your will becomes battle ready.
- Your will is ready when you need it.
- You are strong willed.
- You can brag about your willpower.
- You can explain to others about your relationship (your friendship) to your will.
- You can teach others how to get in touch with their will.
- In this way you 'know where your will rests.
Are you able to wiggle your ears?
Many people cannot move their ears. What do you need to be able to do it? Is it possible to find the muscle that can pull the ears so it looks as if they are rocking. I found that muscle very by chance one day. Now I can wiggle my ears. That's pretty funny.
Next step: where is the will of the group?
Now we move from the individual to the group. A group can sit idle. When the manager walks in the door, a little life can be detected. The leader can direct the group to do something. As a rule, you start in a slightly different place:
Do we have a problem?
What is the problem?
What does it mean to have that problem?
Should we do something about it?
What should we do about it?
When will we do something about it?
Now we have done something about it. Has the problem gone? Or did we create a new problem?
How amazing is it that the problem has gone?
Can others use the knowledge we have gathered to solve the same type of problem?
When a group of people can work together in a structured way, it can be felt in the individual. It is a delicious feeling to be a community in this way, and to agree that you have a problem that you want to do something about, and then find out that life has become easier for everyone.
In a collaboration, the help must be defined, agreed and formulated before it is needed. This means that everyone has something to lean on when the work starts. The help can be continuously adjusted as everyone gets better.
Define the help: Your employees must, together with you, define what the help covers in the current situation or specific work task.
Agree on the help: You and your employees must jointly agree how you offer and ask for the help that you have defined that will be needed.
Formulate the help: You must formulate the words that describe the help and that everyone understands the meaning of. Words that are easy to say out loud, in a busy everyday life.
Somewhere along the way, the group has to talk about things and agree more. Once they have agreed what needs to be agreed, they can start to act. This is how things work in intelligent collaboration. First you talk about the 'matter' and then you do something about the 'matter'.
